KUHF Conversations: METRO Chair Gilbert Garcia

Posted on · Whenever you buy something that's subject to sales tax inside the service area for METRO, one penny of the sales tax goes to the transit agency. Nearly 25 years ago, voters decided that METRO should share a quarter of its sales tax revenue with the General Mobility Fund. The fund helps to pay for road and bridge work in Houston, Harris County, and several other cities that are part of METRO. This fall, voters will be asked to decide whether METRO continues making contributions to the fund, or return to the days when METRO kept all the sales tax money to itself.
