Sharky’s restaurants in Houston area forced to pay $47K in back wages after labor department investigation

Posted on September 15, 2023 · A total of 107 employees either did not receive proper overtime pay or had their pay rates drop below minimum wage after being charged for their uniforms, according to findings by the U.S. Department of Labor. The owner for Sharky's said the company should have been better informed by the federal agency.

Texas Children’s Hospital cited by OSHA over string of employee assaults by patients

Posted on May 11, 2023 · An investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration found 15 incidents of patient-against-employee violence last year at the Houston-based pediatric hospital. In one case, a security officer lost consciousness and had to be hospitalized after an assault by a patient.

Texas Southern University locked in legal dispute with police chief who’s still working despite being placed on leave

Posted on December 12, 2022 · Mary Young has been granted two temporary restraining orders against the historically Black university in Houston's Third Ward, which has alleged in court documents that its police chief fraudulently authorized thousands of dollars in extra pay for officers.
