Finalists from The Woodlands and Katy Emerge from Houston Public Media Spelling Bee

Posted on · After competing in nine rounds with 56 total spellers representing 42 Texas counties, Shourav Dasari, a resident of The Woodlands and an eighth grader at McCullough Jr. High in Conroe ISD, emerged as the champion of the 2017 Houston Public Media Spelling Bee, making Raksheet Kota, a resident of Katy and an eighth grader at Beckendorff Jr. High in Katy ISD, runner-up.

Houston Public Media to Broadcast and Live Stream Nation’s Largest Local Spelling Bee

Posted on · Fifty-six spellers representing grades third through eighth from 1,151 schools in 42 Texas counties, will face-off on Sat., April 1 for the 2017 Houston Public Media Spelling Bee, the nation’s largest local spelling bee. New this year, early rounds will stream live on Houstonpublicmedia.org/spellingbee at 1:30 p.m. and final rounds will air live on TV 8 and online at 7:00 p.m.
