Posted on · Bill works with his father in their geosciences consulting firm here in Houston. Bill has a full schedule with work and family obligations, but he still finds time to volunteer. It was about a year ago following Hurricane Ike when Bill was inspired to write his essay about the importance he sees in volunteering time to others...especially during those challenging days following the storm.

Once his family arrived in Houston, Josh was in high school and he decided this was a place he'd like to stay. He attended the University of Houston, receiving two master's degrees...social work and business administration...and he's now putting that education to good use. He is a product of Houston I.S.D. and is now entering his senior year at the University of Houston pursuing an engineering degree. Chase also works in the hospitality industry to pay his way. That work has also opened his world to new friends including one particular colleague who gave Chase a new perspective about friendship.

She took a radio news job and continued in that industry for many years and for the last few years, Melanie and her husband have run a successful media consulting company specializing in crisis communication. Melanie's accomplishments are many, but overcoming deafness may be her greatest. In her essay, Melanie helps us understand the difference between hearing and listening.
