KUHF-Houston Public Radio’s “This I Believe” with Lacrecia McGregor

Posted on · Lacrecia was born in St. Joseph's Hospital in downtown Houston and has called Sugar Land home all her life. After graduating from the University of Houston with a degree in advertising, she went to work and is currently the Web Site and Marketing Director for a locally based retail chain. In her essay, Lacrecia expresses her belief in the importance of being counted.....and participating in every election.

Posted on · John F. Burke moved to Texas from Pennsylvania in 1985. Since then, the Professor of Political Science at the University of St. Thomas has blended the many cultures of his youth in Pennsylvania with those of his new homeland of Texas. Professor Burke says his experience is similar to many of us living in the Houston area and the resulting diversity is a great reward.

Posted on · Lisa is a native Texan and for the last 20 years, has lived in Houston with her husband and three sons. The first part of her life was spent in Palacios and Rockport on the Texas coast. A few years ago, Lisa returned to the classroom, teaching English to students at Langham Creek High School. Lisa says her experience writing this essay has been a rewarding one and is one she'll share with her students.

Posted on · Chelsea is a Houston native and today, lives in Dickinson in Galveston County. Chelsea is a budget analyst with a NASA contractor at the Johnson Space Center. She says it truly is an exciting place to work and she's proud to be a part of such a great team. Chelsea's essay was born many years ago in grade school. The essay pays tribute to her third grade teacher and it's a reminder of the power of simple gestures and how little things can make a big difference. It's associated with Houston Community College and when Adriana graduates in the spring, she'll not only receive her high school diploma but also an Associates Degree. Adriana's essay is about her grandmother's struggle with Alzheimer's. Adriana is realizing how the disease affects the entire family and how precious time can be.

Posted on · Nita is a native Texan, born in Corpus Christi, but she's lived in Houston since the age of three. She went on to graduate from the University of Houston and now Nita has a son attending UT in Austin. She's reached that point in her life where she's reflecting back...especially to those family members lost over time. In her essay, Nita pays tribute to her grandparents...early influences that she now truly appreciates.

Posted on · Kristie is a native of Pennsylvania but has lived in Houston for several years. The trained geologist came to Houston to work in the oil business, but now teaches Geology to students attending Lone Star College. As Kristie explains in her essay for KUHF's This I Believe, knowledge is important but she believes it's made more valuable when mixed with imagination.
