The 287(g) program allows sheriff’s deputies to alert federal authorities when they have undocumented immigrants with a criminal record in their jails and then transfer their custody to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which can take them to detention centers such as the one this photo shows, located in the state of Illinois.
