Homeless Count Determines Level Of Funding

Posted on · Last year, the homeless population in Harris and Fort Bend counties grew by 25 percent, according to an annual count by the coalition for the homeless of Houston-Harris County. Tomorrow volunteers will fan out to count the homeless population for 2012. This count help determine funding from the federal government.

A New Kind Of Center For Homeless Youth In Houston

Posted on · The newest resource center in the Montrose area is helping struggling teenagers and young adults create better lives for themselves.  The "Safe Spot" opened just five months ago.  In that time, it has helped dozens of youngsters find jobs and escape homelessness.  David Pitman visited the safe spot to find out what sets it apart.

Homeless Man Full of Hope

It was at one of those shelters that we met Quinton Smith. Smith is a product of the foster system, life hasn't been easy for him — but as Bill Stamps reports — Smith continues to dream of a better life.

Volunteers Needed to Help Count the Homeless

Posted on · The federal government determines the amount of money it will spend on the homeless on the size of the homeless population. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development requires a count to take place within the last ten days of January. Rod Rice reports that tonight will be the first of two consecutive Friday night counts.

Homeless Get Surprise Gift

Posted on · It's estimated there are between ten and twelve thousand homeless people living in Houston. Many of the agencies to help the homeless believe a good number of those living on the streets don't take advantage of the services. Bill Stamps followed one local agency as they headed out to the streets to pass out clothing.
