Texas will investigate whether foster care officials reap travel rewards from vulnerable youth

Posted on September 28, 2023 · At least 800 youth this year have spent at least one night in a hotel room, classified as a child without placement. The state now says it will investigate allegations that staff were reaping rewards from the hotels those youth were staying in.

One-third of Texas foster care caseworkers left their jobs last year as the agency continued putting kids in hotels

Posted on September 26, 2023 · The Department of Family and Protective Services has increasingly relied on housing foster kids in hotels when it can’t find them a home. In the 2022 fiscal year, after record staff turnover, more than 1 in 4 caseworkers had less than one year of experience.
