Voters To Make Final Decision On HISD ‘Recapture’ Question

HISD voters recently approved to pay the Robin Hood bill, currently at $77 million, by purchasing "attendance credits." This is essentially writing a check to the state, instead of the alternative of losing commercial property from HISD's tax base.

Valued at about $1.5 billion, the Galleria is the most valuable piece of commercial property in HISD. Voters decided last November to pay the district's debt to school finance with property, instead of a check.
