Man accused of murdering five in Cleveland mass shooting pleads not guilty

Posted on August 11, 2023 · Francisco Oropeza, 38, is accused of his killing five of his neighbors, including a 9-year-old boy, in a small town northeast of Houston in late April.

Convicted murderer Syed Rabbani, ‘abandoned’ by previous defense attorneys, to be removed from death row after 35 years

Posted on November 16, 2023 · Rabbani, 58, was convicted and sentenced to death in 1988 in the shooting death of 21-year-old Mohammed Jikar Hasan. His 1994 request for a new punishment phase of his trial was granted earlier this fall, and Harris County prosecutors are no longer asking for the death penalty as Rabbani is in a vegetative state, according to his new defense attorney.

A.J. Armstrong transferred to second Texas prison since being convicted of parents’ murders

Posted on September 27, 2023 · Armstrong, who was found guilty Aug. 16 in Harris County, was transferred Saturday to the George Beto Unit in East Texas after spending less than a week at a facility in the Corpus Christi area.

Posted on September 19, 2023 · A new defense attorney for the 23-year-old Armstrong, who was a teenager at the time of his parents' deaths, claimed in a motion for a new trial that he should have been tried as a juvenile and that prosecutors should have provided previous defense attorneys with information that questioned the credibility of a key witness.
