Beneficiary Designations

Naming Houston Public Media as a beneficiary of one your assets, such as your retirement plan or life insurance policy, is a convenient way to support our mission. All it takes are a few minutes and a simple form.

A Gift in your Will or Trust

With as little as one sentence, you can make a gift in your will or trust to advance educational and cultural programs at Houston Public Media. Whether you choose to give a set amount or a percentage of your estate, your support will strengthen our community with quality educational programming for all ages.

Retirement Plan Assets

Retirement plan assets are a great way to support the work at Houston Public Media because they are not only secure our future, but they also can provide tax relief for your loved ones. Consider leaving your loved one less heavily taxed assets and leaving your retirement plan assets to Houston Public Media.

Houston Public Media is a community service of and licensed by the University of Houston, which is governed by the University of Houston System Board of Regents. The University of Houston’s governance policy is enumerated in its MAPP Policies and Procedures.

Bequest Language

Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most effective ways to ensure a lasting impact. Making a gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can guarantee that your legacy endures. Your gift may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate or the remainder after all other provisions are specified.

Sample Language

For an unrestricted gift that allows Houston Public Media to determine how to use the funds based on the most pressing needs, use the following language for your will and/or trust:

"I give and bequeath (the sum of $____ or a specific asset) or (a percent of the rest, residue and remainder of my residuary estate) to the Houston Public Media Foundation; which is licensed to the University of Houston (Federal Tax ID no. 74-6001399) and include KUHT/PBS TV 8 and KUHF/NPR News 88.7 located at 4343 Elgin, Houston, TX 77204-0008."

To designate your provision for a particular purpose:

“I give to Houston Public Media, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 4343 Elgin, Houston, TX 77204-0008 and licensed to the University of Houston (EIN #74-6001399), or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) ifand so long as Houston Public Media determines that the need exists. If Houston Public Media shall determine at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, or no longer exists or for some reason it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then Houston Public Media may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose related as closely as possible to that stated above.”

If you have named Houston Public Media in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure that your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us of your plans will enable us to plan for the use of your future gift. However, if you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.
