Matt Thomas

News Anchor

Matt Thomas is an award-winning journalist who started his career in broadcast news more than 20 years ago. He is currently Senior Producer and an anchor for Houston Public Media and The Texas Newsroom. Before joining HPM and The Texas Newsroom in 2022, Matt was the Senior Content Editor at WFAA-TV in Dallas. He started his career interning at heritage news/talk radio stations in Dallas Fort Worth and New York City, and while in college he worked part-time at ABC News Radio as a desk assistant.

That was followed by hist first move to Houston, and a full-time position as a reporter for the city’s all-news radio station. Matt then accepted a similar position for the all-news radio station in North Texas, where his reporting and anchoring was recognized with numerous Texas Associated Press Broadcasters and Regional Edward R. Murrow awards, as well as a national Murrow award for a radio series.

Matt jumped at the chance to return to Houston in his current role overseeing production and story selection for Houston Public Media and the Texas Newsroom, identifying and presenting stories relevant to the state’s dozens of Texas Newsroom affiliates as a senior producer and anchor. In his free time, Matt enjoys golf, cooking, and above all, spending quality time with his daughter.
