UH Moment: Award Winning Alumnus Returns to UH

“It is really awesome to come back and see it from a different angle as the guest artist.”

The International Piano Festival at the University of Houston’s Moores School of Music always features some of the greatest performers. This year, one of its most accomplished alumni took the stage for the first time.

“It is pretty surreal because every year I used to play in the master class and I used to go see all of the recitals,” said Kenny Broberg.

Broberg won the silver medal at last year’s Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, considered one of the top music contests in the world. In his debut season as a Cliburn medalist, he made sure to return to his alma mater.

“It is really awesome to come back and see it from a different angle as the guest artist,” Broberg said.

After getting to see so many top pianists at the International Piano Festival as a student, Broberg is excited to be able to return the favor.

“It is one of the only places in Houston where you can go and see solo piano recitals from some of the best pianists in the world,” Broberg said.
