Nearly 27,000 people had voted within the first six hours of Thursday, Oct. 22 in Harris County, with the county expecting to hit a total million votes by the end of the week, according to the County Clerk's Office.
Record turnout means that people are – and will be – heading to the polls. But questions still remain for many about the voting process.
As part of our series on voting (part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, part 5, and part 6), Roxanne Werner, director of community relations for the Harris County Clerk’s Office, and Jay Aiyer, county attorney working in elections for the Harris County Attorney's Office, answer listener call-in questions on everything you need to know to vote, including:
- polling locations and hours
- 24-hour voting
- one drop box location for mail-in ballots at NRG stadium (Blue Lot 25, enter Gate 9)
- free Metro rides to vote on Oct. 24, 26 – 29 and Nov. 3
- and more

Houston Public Media reporter Matt Harab also shares a story about a passionate poll worker, and talks about county officials’ attempts to confirm the legality of drive-thru voting. UPDATE: Immediately after this segment aired, news broke that the Texas Supreme Court has denied a petition challenging drive-thru voting, allowing the practice to legally continue in Harris County. Residents may continue to vote at 10 drive-thru polling places.
