Skyline Sessions: Mattiel

Mattiel’s music spans retro styles, touching on familiar rock and pop motifs, but it sounds new, not nostalgic. Sometimes bluesy and garagey, sometimes playfully reminiscent of ’60s French pop, and sometimes floating in a narcotic Velvets-esque haze–the band (fronted by Mattiel Brown) manages to make the evocative fresh.

Mattiel is currently in the middle of a U.S.-Europe tour supporting the new album Satis Factory, officially released on Friday, June 14. While in Houston for a concert at White Oak Music Hall, Brown (with guitarist Jonah Swilley) visited Houston Public Media to record the songs “Keep the Change” and “Millionaire,” both off Satis Factory, as well as “Send It On Over,” from the band’s self-titled 2017 debut album.
