Rodney Chinelliott is a founding member of J.W. Americana, a kind of performance-art-party-band in which Chinelliott assumes the loose identity of “J.W.,” and which spawned an alter-ego drag act called The Wagner Sisters. With OddKnee, songwriter Chinelliott plays things closer to the shambling indie-rock model, but with the trademark quirky humor he brings to J.W. and his other band Iron Skillet. OddKnee, with Tony Barilla (bass), Matt Harlan (guitar), Jeff McDonald (synth), Bill Savoie (drums) and Rachel Jones (vocals), visited Houston Public Media’s Geary Studio to record the songs “Hey Mamma,” “Hillamint,” and “Night Rats” — and also a little something about a cool guy named Karl.
