Live In Studio: The Band Of Heathens

Austin-based Americana outfit performs two songs off its forthcoming album.

The Band of Heathens is an award-winning Austin-based rock band going on 10 years together as a group. They’re set to release their fifth studio album (eighth overall), Duende, in January 2017. The Spanish title has no direct translation; the closest English distillation would be “having soul” or possessing a kind of mysterious power, often imbued with profound sadness. The Band of Heathens visited Houston Public Media’s Geary Studio to record the songs “Green Grass of California” (an ode to West Coast weed culture) and “Cracking the Code” (a meditation on the pervasive influence of social media), both off the forthcoming Duende.
