Live In Studio: Fiddle Witch And The Demons Of Doom

Houston power trio crafts epic mix of classical music and metal.

Houston instrumental power trio Fiddle Witch & The Demons of Doom is a supergroup of sorts. Lead witch Jo Bird is one of the founders of Two Star Symphony, Houston’s best-known creators of contemporary classical music for more than a decade. Bird enlisted bassist Geoffrey Muller, also a multi-instrumentalist known for his work with Robert Ellis (and many other projects); and drummer Spike the Percussionist, a legend in Houston’s underground metal scene. Together they craft intricate, epic, face-melting compositions that mix motifs of classical, rock, metal, and even a little Gypsy folk music. The band’s recent single “Midnight Mayhem” is currently in contention for a Grammy nomination.

Fiddle Witch & The Demons of Doom visited Houston Public Media’s Geary Studio to record “Bone Chomper,” off the trio’s debut self-titled album.
