Living amid worlds of fantasy, intrigue, and the occasional dragon comes easy for actor Graham McTavish. Swimming in a cage surrounded by a great white shark? That’s perhaps a bit more daunting.

McTavish is known for his roles in all kinds of fantastical stories, from Outlander to The Witcher to House of the Dragon.

His real world adventures, however, involve road tripping with fellow actor and Scotsman Sam Heughan, and occasionally getting into situations that could be considered either thrilling or absolutely harrowing, depending on which of the two you ask. Then they document the whole thing in a book.

Following their first book, Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other, the pair have now trekked across New Zealand, where McTavish resides part of the time.

And now, touring to promote the book Clanlands in New Zealand: Kiwis, Kilts, and an Adventure Down Under, Graham McTavish found himself road tripping through Texas and making his first ever visit to Houston.

In the audio above, he shares his impressions of the Lone Star State, his lifelong dream to be a writer, and some insight into his career.
