An excessive heat warning is in effect in Houston from 11:00 a.m. Friday through 8:00 p.m. Saturday. It's the first such warning in Houston since 2016, but it's also not like the hot weather will ease up then–quite the contrary.

In the audio above, Space City Weather meteorologist Eric Berger tells us why we’re facing an unusual (even for Houston) mix of heat, humidity, and clear skies, very close to the summer solstice. It’s just the right formula for heat that’s even more oppressive than we usually get here in the summertime.
