“A natural affinity” is how Third Coast Percussion member David Skidmore describes the relationship between percussionist and dancers.

That affinity will come to life at the Wortham Center this weekend (Friday, May 5th) via Performing Arts Houston as the four-member percussion ensemble performs alongside dancers from Movement Art Is, a dance organization founded by Jon Boogz and Lil Buck.

The program will consist of original works written specifically for Third Coast Percussion by composers Tyondai Braxton and Jlin, as well as arrangements of pieces by Philip Glass.

In the audio above, Skidmore talks with Houston Matters producer Joshua Zinn about the collaboration and the unique elements of the music they’ll be performing.
