Tipoff is scheduled for 6:15 local time for tonight's NCAA men's basketball Sweet 16 matchup between the University of Houston and the University of Miami.

It's the Coogs' fourth Sweet 16 appearance since 2019, and, by the end of the weekend, the Coogs will return home — either with their season concluded or to prepare for the Final Four being played here in Houston.

Kris Gardner covers basketball and owns the Houston Roundball Review. He says Houston and Miami match up well, with both teams featuring strong play by their guards. In UH’s case, that guard is AAC player of the year and first-team All-American Marcus Sasser. He was slowed in last weekend’s games by a groin injury but remarked this week that he expects to be at ’90 percent’ for tonight’s game.

In the audio above, Gardner notes how any team would welcome a 90 percent of Sasser in their lineup. He also tells Houston Matters host Craig Cohen that the Cougars know two wins this weekend would mean a trip to the Final Four, and a chance to win a national championship in front of family and friends in Houston,. But that they’ve also known about the Final Four in the Bayou City all season and have been able to successfully tune out such hype and focus on the game ahead. He expects that’s what they’ll do tonight.
