On Wednesday’s Houston Matters: The Electric Reliability Council of Texas activated an energy emergency alert after the state nearly hit another record for electricity demand. It's the first time ERCOT has activated this alert since January 2014. We discuss whether Texas has the energy it needs and how consumers can better conserve power.

Also this hour: We discuss the latest developments in politics and government in our weekly political roundup.

Then, writer Nic Stone talks about growing up as the daughter of an African-American police officer.

And we visit Candytopia, an interactive exhibit that's maybe as close as any of us will ever get to visiting Willy Wonka's chocolate factory.
