Houston Matters

Full Show: Prostitution On The Bissonnet Track, And Strange Houston News (May 2, 2019)

On Friday’s Houston Matters: A radical approach to ending prostitution along Bissonnet Street, reflecting on some bizarre news from Houston’s past, and Yoonshin Song, the new concertmaster for the Houston Symphony.

On Thursday’s Houston Matters: Bissonnet Street has earned a reputation for prostitution and human trafficking. And so local officials have taken the unusual step of asking a judge to declare the so-called Bissonnet Track off-limits to more than 80 suspected prostitutes, pimps, and johns. We learn more about a Houston Chronicle investigation into the problem.

Also this hour: If you live in Houston long enough, you’ll hear about some weird stuff — like a month or so ago when a tiger was discovered in an abandoned house. So, some longtime Houston journalists share some of their favorite odd but memorable news stories from Houston’s past.

And we meet Yoonshin Song, the new concertmaster for the Houston Symphony, who tells us about her new role and the musical experiences that led her here.
