Theater District Houston has started a new program in conjunction with the Harris County Juvenile Probation Department with the intention of using art to help at-risk youth.

Seven performing arts organizations — Houston Ballet, Da Camera, Houston Grand Opera, Society for the Performing Arts, Houston Symphony, Alley Theatre, and Theater Under the Stars — are doing workshops and developing projects to engage with youth in juvenile detention centers in the area.

In the audio above, we learn more about the program from Henry Gonzales from the HCJPD, Carleen Graham, director of HGOco — Houston Grand Opera’s community outreach program, and Chaney Tullos, assistant director of education at The Alley Theatre about the program.
