On Monday’s Houston Matters: New findings from the United Way of Greater Houston say nearly 30 percent of households in Harris County cannot afford basic needs. The organization says these working families' earnings are above the poverty level, but they still struggle to pay for housing, food, and more. We consider the particular challenges for these Houstonians.

Also this hour: Rep. Dan Crenshaw joins us to discuss his first few weeks in office, the temporary end to the government shutdown, and to answer listener questions.

We meet the Alley Theatre’s new artistic director, Rob Melrose. And Jeff Balke updates on Houston sports.
