This weekend, Rice University will host an installment of A Night of Philosophy and Ideas, an international event taking place in more than 100 cities this year — but for the first time in Houston.
As a joint presentation with the French Embassy, the event unites philosophers, musicians, artists, and authors for a six-hour marathon of performances and discussions that runs through the night. The event begins at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, and ends at 1 a.m. on Sunday morning at Rice University’s Moody Center for the Arts.
The theme for this particular version of A Night of Philosophy and Ideas focuses on ecology.
Rice professor and philosopher Timothy Morton will co-present the keynote presentation with artist Laurie Anderson. In the audio above, he explains the event and gives examples of the kinds of conversations he expects to see.
