What Makes A Film A Christmas Movie?

From Die Hard to The Shop Around the Corner, area movie critic Dustin Chase discusses what makes a Christmas movie…a Christmas movie.

Die Hard -Bruce Willis
Since the film takes place at Christmas, much debate has surrounded whether the 1988 action movie Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, is indeed a Christmas movie.

It happens every year – a debate ensues over whether a particular film is indeed a Christmas movie. In recent years, the debate has focused on Die Hard.

But what defines a Christmas movie? Is it just a film set during Christmas? Does Christmas have to play a key function in the plot? Or does it have to be family friendly? The answer, of course, depends on who you ask.

In the audio above, Houston Matters host Craig Cohen talks it over with film critic Dustin Chase and we take some suggestions from Houstonians.
