Apollo Chamber Players Perform ‘A Sephardic Chanukah’

Vocalist Isabelle Ganz and the Apollo Chamber Players play a selection from their upcoming holiday performance.

This weekend, the Apollo Chamber Players will put on their first-ever holiday-themed concert, with a bit of a twist on the traditional music you might expect to hear at a holiday concert.

With the ensemble's focus on music of cultures from around the world, they have commissioned a handful of new pieces in that vein, with folk-inspired music from Europe, Central America, Asia, and Africa. And many of them were written by local composers.

In the audio above, we hear one such composer and performer, vocalist Isabelle Ganz, perform her piece A Sephardic Chanukah with the Apollo Chamber Players in Houston Public Media’s Geary Performance Studio.

And Houston Matters producer Joshua Zinn talks with them about the performance, which will be held Friday, Dec. 14, at 7:30 p.m. at First Congregationalist Church, located at 10840 Beinhorn Rd.
