Houston Matters

How Does Houston’s Transit System Measure Up With The Rest Of The Country?

Former METRO board member Christof Spieler examines that question in his new book, Trains, Buses, People: An Opinionated Atlas of US Transit.

How does Houston’s transit system hold up against the rest of the country? That’s what Christof Spieler examines in his new book, Trains, Buses, People: An Opinionated Atlas of US Transit.

Spieler is a former board member of METRO Houston and is currently vice president and director of planning at Huitt-Zollars along with being a senior lecturer at Rice University.

In the new book, Spieler profiles the 47 metropolitan areas that have rail transit or bus rapid transit lines, including Houston, and examines lessons to take away from each about how to build better transit.

In the audio above, we talk with Spieler about what lessons other cities can take away from Houston’s transit systems and which cities illuminate the best path forward for our region.

Spieler will discuss the book and sign copies tonight at 7 at Rice University’s BioScience Research Collaborative.
