Being the New Kid in School Can Bring Mental Health Challenges

On the first day of school every year, there are plenty of kids walking into not only a new school year, but also a new school.

Maybe their families have moved. Or maybe there are more serious reasons they're attending a new school – such as being displaced by Harvey. Regardless of the reasons, the transition is always challenging for students, their parents, and their teachers. And those challenges can create mental health issues for kids.

In the audio above, we learn what can be done to better help those students make the transition to a new school by hearing from Lara Hulin, a social worker at Bellaire High School.
