Astros’ reliever Framber Valdez got his first career start on Sunday as the Astros finished a four-game sweep of the Angels over the weekend. That gave Houston a 1.5-game lead in the AL West over the Oakland Athletics, who are in town Monday through Wednesday. And the Astros are hopeful George Springer could return to Astros lineup Monday, after missing five straight games.

Meanwhile, JJ Watt returned to action for the Texans in their preseason loss the Rams Saturday. And the Dynamo prepare to face the NY Red Bulls on Wednesday after a 1-1 draw against Dallas last week.

We discuss those and other developments in Houston sports with Jeff Balke, who writes for Houston Press and Houstonia Magazine.
