On Thursday’s Houston Matters: We discuss something called “vicarious trauma.” We hear the latest installment of Houston Public Media’s Stories from the Storm series. And we talk with musician Matisyahu.

On Thursday’s Houston Matters: Dozens of Houston's faith leaders are calling on the city to adopt a new way to address gun violence. The effort focuses specifically on holding gun manufacturers accountable to higher regulation standards. We learn about the initiative and how it measures up to other efforts to address gun violence. And News 88.7's Allison Lee gives us an inside look at a pilot program that uses technology to address mental health problems.

Also this hour: We learn about the concept of vicarious, or secondary trauma. That’s when someone experiences the symptoms of trauma after witnessing or hearing about someone else's experience. An upcoming local workshop will address the issue.

Then, former astronaut Mae Jemison talks about pursuing human exploration of deep space.

Plus, we learn about a family and their caregiver's efforts to stay ahead of rising flood waters during Harvey in the latest installment of Houston Public Media's Stories from the Storm series:
