Tomorrow is Independence Day, when we celebrate the birth of a nation that was founded by colonists who largely arrived here seeking greater religious freedom.

However, in modern politics, plenty of politicians cite scripture to support their actions. One recent prominent example came in June when Attorney General Jeff Sessions cited Romans 13 in defense of the Trump administration separating immigrant families detained at the border.

Houston is nationally known as one of the most diverse cities in the country. So, what will that mean to the politicians who use the Bible as a political strategy? And will that approach be effective with their constituents or alienate them?
