Chris Wise believes everyone lives a life worth writing about. That’s why he wrote a book aimed at encouraging everyday people to write about their lives.

Wise is a poet, novelist, host of a web video series, and a high school teacher. In his latest work, Colliding With Orion: Writing from Life, he includes some examples of his own work. Then, he follows them with some background information about what was going on in his life that inspired the piece and then some comments on the literary devices and methods he used. And he concludes each section with a challenge for the reader to write about a similar time in their life.

In the audio above, he tells Houston Matters producer Michael Hagerty about the book and how he hopes to convince people that their stories are worth telling.

Wise holds a book signing at Brazos Bookstore Sunday, June 10, at 5 p.m.
