How To Walk Away - Book Cover

Maggie is a young woman with high standards whose life is about to be just the way she wants it. But, of course, life doesn't always cooperate. A debilitating accident threatens everything she has planned, and she's forced to rebuild her life.

That's the crux of How To Walk Away, the latest novel by Houston-based writer Katherine Center.

Center, whose other titles include Happiness For Beginners and The Lost Husband, likes to center her stories around characters who've had the rug pulled out from under them. And that includes Maggie.

In the audio above, Center tells Houston Matters producer Michael Hagerty about the book, about taking a flight in small plane to learn something harrowing, and about what draws her to characters whose lives are in upheaval.

Center hosts a book launch at Brazos Bookstore tonight at 7.
