The Houston region experienced a flash flood emergency Monday (April 19, 2016). Severe storms throughout Greater Houston led to significant flooding in the region. Many major thoroughfares were impassable. There were reports of up to, and perhaps more than 16 inches of rain falling on some portions of the west side of the region. More than a hundred thousand homes were without power. All Metro bus and rail service was canceled. Many flights were canceled at Bush and Hobby airports. Many government offices closed. Most schools (including the University of Houston) closed, as rain fell in some areas for hours at a rate of 2-3 inches per hour.

We presented a special edition of Houston Matters, dedicated to the storm and flooding.
