Thanksgiving is nearly upon us, and as you prepare for family, friends, food and whatever else is a part of your Thanksgiving tradition, we provide you with some ideas and guidance on today’s program.

A few weeks back, we reached out to your fellow Houstonians to find out what traditions they’ve brought to their Thanksgiving. We received a number of intriguing replies, which we share. Then: Houston Matters’ Edel Howlin reports on how to safely fry a turkey. (Texas often leads the nation in turkey fryer fires).

Also: Bistro Menil Chef Greg Martin joins us to field your questions about preparing Thanksgiving dinner. Everything from turkey preparation to side dish advice. Whether you’re a novice leading the Turkey Day festivities for the first time, or an old hand at cooking Thanksgiving dinner for the family, Chef Martin has some tips for you. (E-mail questions now to talk@houstonmatters.org).

And our gaggle of foodies returns to share some favorite traditional holiday fare, desserts, and bakeries in Houston, on a pre-Thanksgiving edition of The Full Menu.

Plus: It’s Monday, so we once again talk Houston sports with Houston Press and Houstonia Magazine writer Jeff Balke. We discuss the Houston Rockets’ coaching change, the Texans victory over the Jets, Astros players winning the Cy Young and Rookie of the Year awards and UH handing its football coach a substantial raise.
