Social activist and philosopher Dr. Cornel West will speak at the University of Houston Downtown on Friday, Nov. 6, at 7 p.m. He'll discuss the Black Lives Matter movement and race relations in America today.

In conjunction with that event, we learn more about the Black Lives Matter movement — both nationally and in Houston — as Michael Hagerty talks with Dr. DoVeanna Fulton, Dean of the College of Humanities & Social Sciences at UH Downtown.

Fulton explains how the movement is less like the Civil Rights Movement and more like another cause, that predates it.
