Dr. Peter Hotez is one of four scientists who’ll serve as U.S. Science Envoys beginning this month. The program was created in 2009 as a way to demonstrate the United States’ commitment to science, technology and innovation as tools of diplomacy and economic growth.

Science Envoys advise the White House, the Department of State, and the scientific community about potential opportunities for cooperation.

Dr. Hotez spoke with Houston Matters’ Maggie Martin about the responsibilities he’ll take on in his new role.
