The Face of Texas is a book featuring nearly 80 portraits of various Texans, from the famous such as George Strait and Beyonce, to the lesser known state residents, including cheerleaders, ranchers and beauty queens.

The book is a collection of photographs taken by Michael O’Brien in a span of over 30 years. The Face of Texas was first published in 2003. The second edition features over a dozen new portraits.

Each photo is accompanied by a short profile of the subject written by O’Brien’s wife, Elizabeth.

Houston Matters’ Maggie Martin spoke with Michael and Elizabeth about the book. Michael O’Brien explained why he chose a picture of Willie Nelson for the cover.
