Day trips are a great way to get out and explore areas near Houston without packing a full bag. On this edition of Houston Matters, from smaller towns to national parks, we talk about some of the trips Houstonians can fit into a day. We welcome your suggestions, as we talk with Kristin Finan, author of Quick Escapes from Houston: The Best Weekend Getaways. We also talk with Laurie Roddy, Curator of Get Out Here Houston and author of 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles: Houston as well as Easy Hikes Close to Home: Houston.

Also this hour: A lot can happen in a week. Some of it good. Some of it bad. Some of it downright ugly. When faced with a variety of intriguing developments in the week’s news, we turn each Friday to our panel of “non-experts” to parse The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly of Houston news. Houston Matters’ Edel Howlin will raise a variety of topics with panelists Mark Bennett (attorney and author of the Defending People blog), Charles Kuffner (who writes the Off the Kuff political blog), and Aurora Losada (editor of the Spanish-Language paper La Voz de Houston).

Plus: The Texas Tenors are performing tonight in Fort Worth – but you don’t have to travel there to enjoy them. Houston Public Media TV 8 has you covered, with a new special featuring the Texas Tenors airing Monday night at 7. We sit down with a couple of the Texas Tenors to discuss their blend of country, gospel, classical, and Broadway.
