New to Houston? Well, we have this thing called hurricane season, and you really need to know about it. First, it starts Saturday and continues through November. It's the six month period in which hurricanes and major tropical storms are most likely to make landfall and potentially do some damage. And while Greater Houston has had a reprieve from a major storm in recent years, the next Hurricane Ike or Isabel or Katrina could very easily head our way this summer.

On this edition of Houston Matters, we discuss what you should know – and how you should prepare – in advance of the season, with Harris County Judge Ed Emmett.

We also welcome any and all questions you may have about hurricanes themselves, for meteorologists Frank Billingsley from KPRC Local 2, and Dr. Jim Siebert from Fox 26.

And pay attention – as topics we discuss may well show up in our hurricane preparedness quiz, in which we'll offer you a chance to win a cool package of prizes!
