Every city has its quirks. Some have more than others. We’ve long heard that Austin has – and flaunts – a reputation for being the quirky capital of Texas. But Houston brings its own bits of weirdness too.

On this edition of Houston Matters, we welcome your examples of Houston’s quirkiness. From the big air bubble you can release with a hidden button near Buffalo Bayou, to the Montrose rollerblader, to the beer can house (right) to the occasionally odd combination of businesses side by side in a largely zone-free city, what do you find especially odd or unusual or goofy about Houston? What are the quirky or weird things/places/people that make Houston special? Tell us your favorite hidden quirky things, places and people in H-Town.

Also this hour: From State Senator Dan Patrick backing out of a closed-door debate in River Oaks, because the press wasn’t invited, to a high-speed street race by Woodlands teenagers apparently emulating a new movie, to the University of Houston as one of the “most beautiful” campuses anywhere, we explore The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly in Houston news this week. On today’s panel: Business Makers Radio Show co-host Russ Capper, Texas Originals Producer Paul Pendergraft, and Ty Mahany, a Houston-area comedian and host of the podcast Ty Curious.

And: Houston Matters’ Conner Clifton reports on Houston’s chess scene.
