Listen
Many medical professionals now offer virtual visits over your computer or phone. Dr. Winston Liaw, chair of Health Systems and Population Health Sciences at the Tilman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine offers some tips to make sure your appointment goes well.
“Today, seeing a doctor is as easy as making a call on your phone or laptop. Telehealth can improve access to care for those who lack transportation or have busy schedules.”
Be sure to:
- List your symptoms and questions ahead of time so you don't miss any important details.
- Choose a place with privacy and no distractions. Don't sit with a window behind you.
- Do an audio and video check ahead of the visit.
- Check in 5 to 10 minutes early in case there are technical difficulties you need to address.
- Finally, request that the clinician add a summary to your medical files so that your health care team knows what happened.
“These will help you have a productive virtual visit.”
