It’s time for children to head back to school. Dr. Joel Blumberg, Clinical Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Tillman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine says don't forget to add a completed immunization card into their backpack! .

“As parents, we want to keep our families healthy and one of the smartest ways is to make sure our children receive all recommended vaccines. Texas requires many childhood vaccines and students can be stopped from attending school if they are not fully immunized, or at least catching up.”

“Some vaccines, like whooping cough, wear off over time, and require a booster shot for continued protection. Adolescent vaccines help protect against cancer and meningitis. While not currently required to attend school in Texas, CoVID-19 vaccines are available for children as young as 6 months.”

“Safe and effective vaccines are now available to protect your children's health during the school year. Call your child's doctor today.”
