Exercising is good for your heart. Dr. Camille Leugers, a family physician in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the Tillman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine has some tips to help you exercise safely during the pandemic..

“Heart disease causes 1 in 4 deaths in the United States. When it comes to taking care of your heart, regular exercise is key, though the need for social distancing can make it a bit challenging.”

Here are 4 tips to help you:

  • Start small – set an activity goal that is manageable.
  • Walk, run or bike outside, staying 6 feet from others. Staying close to home or outdoors is the safest option right now.
  • If you do use a gym, make sure they require everyone to wear a mask and cleans surfaces regularly. You should maintain the appropriate distance and wash your hands often.
  • Aim for 20 minutes of activity every day.

“Remember, every move you make helps keep your heart healthy.”
