Blood donors save lives. Dr. LeChauncy Woodard, an internist and professor at the Tillman J. Fertitta Family College of Medicine has five reasons why you should consider donating.

“The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center supplies blood to more than 170 hospitals across 26 counties in Texas. Shortages can prevent hospitals from providing the best care to keep our community healthy.”

Here's why you should consider donating:

  1. Each donation can save up to 3 lives.
  2. All blood types are needed.
  3. It not only benefits recipients but also contributes to your sense of well-being.
  4. You get a brief health check-up, including blood pressure screening.
  5. You may need a blood transfusion in the future. At least 25% of individuals will need a transfusion in their lifetime.

“While you may be concerned about COVID-19, there is no evidence that it can be transmitted through donating or receiving blood. So please, consider donating today.”
