September is Healthy Aging Month. Dr. Brian Reed, Chair of Clinical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Medicine says we should take a positive approach to growing older.

“With improvements in healthcare and the ageing of the baby boomer generation, older adults make up a larger percentage of the population in the United States. By 2030, a projected 21 percent of the population will be over the age of 65.”

Here are some tips to help you to enjoy a vibrant life:

  • Move and be active. This helps you to reduce cognitive decline and maintain stamina and balance.
  • Eat a healthy and well-balanced diet that includes fruits, vegetables and plenty of water.
  • Be social. Stay connected to family and friends.
  • Have regular medical check-ups and preventative screening tests. Prevent disease or detect it early.
