COVID-19 variants are accelerating. Dr. Bhavna Lall, an internal medicine physician and faculty in the Department of Clinical Sciences at the University of Houston College of Medicine says it’s up to all of us to stop the spread.

“We are still in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, with multiple variants of concern spreading rapidly around the world. The dominant strain in America is currently the B.1.1.7 variant which is also spreading faster than others. All age groups are being affected.”

We can stop the development of new variants and spread of COVID-19. Here are some ways:

  • Get vaccinated: vaccines are widely available to anyone age 16 and over in the U.S. In many areas, 12 and over can receive the vaccine.
  • Continue to practice social distancing and wearing masks until others in our communities have been vaccinated.

“To stop the spread of COVID-19 variants in our communities, country, and the world, we MUST get vaccinated. We need to protect ourselves and our loved ones. We are not safe until everyone is safe.”
